The pink paisley and blue floral telecasters were Fender's response to the flower power, hippie aesthetic emerging in San Franciso. The basic guitars were maple fingerboard telecasters with fancy graphics painted on. Originally introduced in 1968 they were discontinued by 1969 (although later re-issued by Fender Japan).
James Burton was often seen playing a paisley red telecaster, and it became something of a trademark guitar for him.
