I bought my G&L invader in 1986 brand new. I didn't appreciate the guitar because I wasn't a seasoned enough player so I sold it to a friend. Years went by and he told me I needed to buy it back because it should be with me and so I bought the guitar back, still never appreciating what an amazing guitar I had in my possession. It had no strings and so it sat in it's original case for a decade. 2022 rolls around and I finally decided to break it out and put a set of strings on it. WOW! What the hell was wrong with me!? It plays amazing, and sounds amazing! It is now one of my BEST sounding guitars in my collection and I have a lot of big brand, high end stuff. The humbucker in the bridge is the best I've ever heard. The 2 single coils sound better than Texas Specials. I am scouring the internet for another vintage Invader but they seem to be pretty rare. If you ever have the opportunity to buy a vintage Invader you would be foolish to pass on it. IMO it's a guitar worth about $1500 - $2000. I hope I find another one someday. G&L Invader was Leo's best!!! Sound: Incredibly awesome. Some of the best pickups I've ever heard Playability: Like butter. When I pick it up I have a hard time putting it down. My guitar has an ebony fretboard. Quality of Construction: One of the most solid guitars I've ever held. I own Fender Custom Shop, Gibson's, Taylors etc Durability: When my friend owned it he put it "through the meat grinder". Needless to say it looks like its been reliced. Did not affect playability or sound at all. Value: Payed $600 in 1986. Sold for $300. Bought back for $200. I would say I got some serious value Product Support: It's missing the back plate for the controls. I contacted G&L and they said they couldn't help me. I'm trying to figure out how to make a new backplate. Negative: Kahler term requires special strings. Need to use either bullets or soldered ball ends. Regular strings don't stay in tune very well. Lockplate is a pain in the neck. I am not a big trem guy but I do enjoy the Kahler overall. Overall: One of Leo's best guitar's
