GIBSON 1939 Super 400 (Historic Collection)

First introduced in 1934 and enhanced later in 1939 Gibson's Super 400 set a new standard for large-body jazz guitars. Its 18 inch wide body gave it the cutting power to project through any big-band horn section. Introduced in 1939 the Super 400 Premier (400P) was the third version of the Super 400, it had a Venetian cutaway which meant a smaller neck block, shorter pickguard and shallower neck set than the first two iterations of the Super 400 design. This original Super 400 Premier was made from 1939 to 1941 - with some later models being shipped in 1943.

GIBSON CITATION

The Gibson Citation, first introduced in 1969, is one of their finest archtops. Around ten were made during the first production run which lasted until 1971. Gibson reintroduced the Citation in 1979-1983 and again as part of the Gibson Historic Collection in 1993. It has a 17" full-depth body with figured maple back and sides and a carved maple or spruce top with fancy inlays. The neck is made of figured maple or mahogany. The Citation is typically equipped with a gold-covered floating BJB pickup, and comes in natural and sunburst finishes.

The L-5CT is a thin line L-5 originally developed by Gibson for comedian/guitarist George Gobel - but reissued in 1998 in the Gibson Custom Shop Historic Collection. Its shorter scale length and thinner body have proved popular features for many players. It has a carved spruce top, solid maple sides and back and five piece neck. Finish options were vintage sunburst, faded cherry and natural. Other features include

GIBSON L-5 CT (modern reissue)

Introduced in 1922, the acoustic L-5 guitar was Gibson’s first with f-holes. The model became a favourite of big band players including Wes Montgomery. In 1951 Gibson added pickups to the L5.  Comedian and singer George Gobel had a special version of the Gibson L-5 archtop guitar built in 1958, the L-5CT (cutaway, thin body), featuring shorter scale neck scale (24 3/4") and thinner body  (2 3/8"), About 45 L-5CT's were produced from 1958 to 1963,so they are one of the rarest Gibson models. Most were acoustics but some were sold with pickups.
