The GIBSON J-100 XTRA was introduced around 1991 and was based on the late 1930s Gibson SJ-100 model. The first ones had mahogany back, sides and neck, but you also see maple (1999 to 2005) or bubinga (2005 onwards) back and sides. There is variation in the tuners - early ones had nickel tuners later ones gold tuners with pearloid buttons. The fingerboard inlays are usually dots - but some of the maple ones (circa 2003) have crown inlays.

J100 Xtra

I think your info on the J100 Xtra may be off just a little as far as when it was introduced into production. I have a 1975 model that I purchased in 1987. It is the fullest sounding hollow body guitar that I have ever had the pleasure of hearing and playing.
