I now have two Gibson J-100 Xtra Cutaway guitars, a 94 and a 95. And keeping with Gibson tradition - are quite different from one another. The 95 has a smaller neck and a slightly deeper tone. The 94's neck is more comfortable and feels more like a chunky Gibson neck. Both had the outdated Accu-Voice pickup system and I had those removed for newer Fishman pickups and that improved their plugged in tone. Here again, the 95 sounds slightly better but the the 94 is more comfortable to play. I have both these guitars set up with 13's and the tone is big and beautiful. They are wonderful stage guitars and work great in band situations. I also have a J45,and J30 (Hummingbird) The J100 is not my go-to for recording with microphones. It demands space in a mix and is best suited to be the only instrument on the track. It fingerpicks nice but the longer scale 25.5 (opposed to the 24.75 of my other two Gibsons) can be a little fatiguing for long periods of time. I could probably go down to 12's and that would help but I love the way the 13's ring out.
