Product:
- acoustic guitars
Series name:
Dates of manufacture:
1993
Introduced in 1922, the acoustic L-5 guitar was Gibson’s first with f-holes. The model became a favourite of big band players including Wes Montgomery. In 1951 Gibson added pickups to the L5. Comedian and singer George Gobel had a special version of the Gibson L-5 archtop guitar built in 1958, the L-5CT (cutaway, thin body), featuring shorter scale neck scale (24 3/4") and thinner body (2 3/8"), About 45 L-5CT's were produced from 1958 to 1963,so they are one of the rarest Gibson models. Most were acoustics but some were sold with pickups.
The model was reissued (around 1993?) as part of the Gibson Historic Collection.
