The Gibson Ace Frehley "Budokan" Les Paul Custom (made in 2011) model is based on the cherry sunburst, three-pickup Les Paul Custom Ace played at the 1977 KISS concert at Nippon Budokan in Japan. The Gibson Custom shop produced in a limited edition of 50 hand-aged guitars signed by the artist, with a further 100 hand-aged guitars, and 150 guitars treated in Gibson Custom’s VOS process. These models aimed to be a faithful reproduction of Ace Frehley's “Budokan”  based on careful examination of the instrument itself.

The first Gibson Ace Frehley Signature model was this Gibson Custom Shop Ace Frehley Les Paul Custom made from March to July 1997. Less than 300 were made in total, to a design based on Ace's 1970s cherry sunburst finished Les Paul Custom with three humbucking DiMarzio pick-ups. The Gibson specs for this model state two DiMarzio Super Distortion pickups (DP100) and one DiMarzio Dual Sound pickup (DP101). Some of these guitars were supplied with DiMarzio PAFs (DP103) perhaps due to difficulties supplying the DP101s and DP100s.

The DICKEY BETTS RED TOP SIGNATURE LES PAUL was made between 2002 and 2004

The Gibson Gary Rossington Signature Les Paul guitar was introduced in 2002 and made until around 2004. Gibsons Custom, Art & Historic division are teamed up with Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist and hard-driving, southern rocker Rossington to produce this limited edition model based on his 1959 Les Paul.  The finish on the Rossington Les Paul is aged by Gibson finish artist Tom Murphy to replicate Rossington's instrument.

The Gibson Jimmy Page Les Paul signature model was made from 1995 to 1999 and was based on Jimmy's 1959 Les Paul Standard. The guitar had the Les Paul single cutaway bound mahogany body with maple top, 22-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays. The black peghead was bound. Hardware was gold finished including the Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop tailpiece. The cream pickguard was engraved with a "Jimmy Page" signature. It was finished in light honeyburst.

Production of the JOE PERRY SIGNATURE LES PAUL began in 1997 and ended in 1999. It had Joe Perry's signature on the body behind the bridge. It came in blackburst finish only with black chrome hardware.  The bridge pickup was custom-wound to Perry's specifications and the guitar had an active mid-boost tone-shaping circuit, controlled by a push/pull pot, and a master tone control. The Gibson Joe Perry Les Paul was based on Perry's own early-1960 sunburst Les Paul Standard.

The Gibson Joe Perry Boneyard model was conceived by Perry's wife Billie while they were visiting Gibson's Custom Shop in Nashville. Billie conspired with Gibson to secretly build a guitar with a highly flamed "tiger stripe" maple top and a unique finish she called "green tiger." She presented it to Joe for Christmas 2002. Perry liked the guitar so much he immediately added it to his working collection - "The prototype is always two feet away from me down in the studio," he said at the time.

The LES PAUL 1968 CUSTOM FIGURED TOP (CS68LPCF PREFIX) was produced by GIBSON in 2004.

The Gibson Custom Shop manufactured the LES PAUL CATALINA between 1997 and 1999. The Les Paul Catalina was finished in unusual colors which, together with their pearloid pickguards and truss rod covers, gave them a surf guitar vibe. The initial finish options were Canary Yellow, Cascade Green (turquoise blue), or the rarest of all Riverside Red. Later Black Pearl was also added as a finish option. The headstock of these models has a large circular "Custom Shop" banner logo. The Les Paul Catalina had a tone chambered semi-hollow body.

The LES PAUL CLASS 5 FIGURED/QUILT (CSC5/CSC5Q PREFIX) was introduced in 2003

Production of the LES PAUL CUSTOM (LPC PREFIX) began in 1957 and ended in 1960

The Gibson LES PAUL CUSTOM 10TH ANNIVERSARY was made between 2003 and 2004.

GIBSON made the LES PAUL ELEGANT FLAME (FIGURED, CSELNH) OR QUILT (CSELQNH) between 1997 and 2004

GIBSON Custom Shop produced this semi-hollow bodied version of the LES PAUL FLORENTINE between 1997 and 2000 and again for a limited run in 2013-2014. It has a bound carved top with 2 f-holes (or diamond shaped sound holes). In 2009 Gibson released a florentine cutaway solid bodied Les Paul.

Manufacture of the LES PAUL ULTIMA (CSUL PREFIX, ET/GT SUFFIX) began in 2001

The Gibson Peter Frampton "Phenix" 1954 Les Paul Custom guitar is a faithful reproduction of the three pickup 1954 Les Paul Custom given to Frampton by Mark Mariana (a fan) in 1970 in San Francisco. That guitar became a favourite of Frampton but was presumed lost in 1980 in a Venezuelan plane crash. This guitar however, reappeared and was restored and returned to Frampton in 2012. Gibson Custom Shop measured the original 1954 guitar in detail to make this painstaking, hand-aged re-creation.

The Gibson Slash Les Paul Standard (introduced in 2004 and made by the Gibson Custom Shop) is one of the many Gibson Slash Signature Les Pauls. It had a maple top and was finished in Dark Tobacco Sunburst. Pickups were two uncovered Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 Pros as well as a piezo transducer Fishman powerbridge (controlled by a small switch between the volume and tone controls, The trussrod cover is marked "Slash" and Slash used this Signature model live with his band Velvet Revolver.

Gibson introduced the  ZAKK WYLDE SIGNATURE LES PAUL in 1999, as part of the Custom Shop Artist Signature Series. This model is based on Wylde's 1981 Alpine white Les Paul Custom, which was sprayed with black circles in a bull's eye pattern. The story behind that paint job is that after Wylde replaced Jake E. Lee in Ozzy Osbourne's band, he was inspired by the spiral pattern in a TV trailer for Hitchcock's Vertigo film.
