Gibson introduced the thinline hollowbody ES-225 in 1955 as the ES-225T. The ES-225 had a Florentine cutaway, Les Paul wraparound combined bridge and tailpiece, a laminated pickguard, and a single P-90 pickup mounted mid-way between the bridge and fingerboard.
The ES-225TD was introduced in 1956. The ES-225TD was like the ES-225T except with two pickups. The more conventional pickup placement on the ES-225TD makes it more desirable than the ES-225T. The standard finish was tobacco sunburst but natural finish was a more expensive option (ES-225TDN). In 1959 (the year the model was discontinued) some were made with trapeze tailpieces and Tune-o-matic bridges.
