The Gibson Flying V Heritage Korina (produced from 1981 to 1984) was Gibson's attempt at reissuing their 1958 Korina Flying V. This reissue was meant to capture the essence of the 1958 model but it was by no means an exact replica. Close inspection reveals many differences between the reissue and the original and it is most likely that the design was changed to fit with the production methods, tooling and cost of the materials used by Gibson in the early 1980s.
For example the grain runs parallel on the opposing sides of the two piece body of the reissue - whereas on the original the grain meets at an angle making a chevron pattern. Also the reissue has a three piece neck compared to the one-piece original. The newer model has a stepped neck-heel joint at unlike the original's smooth heel cap. Most Gibson Flying V Heritages have a serial number stamped in ink on the back of the head stock but some have a Custom Shop or prototype decals and others have an eight-digit serial number stamped into the wood.
