The SG Deluxe FIREBRAND was made between 1979 and 1981. It had a solid mahogany body with a revolutionary finish designed to look rustic and rough. The Gibson logo was branded on the peghead. They cost around $550 when new in 1980.

GIBSON introduced the SG CLASSIC in 1999. Based on the SG Special of the late 1960s  it had two P-90 pickups 22-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays, tune-o-matic bridge with ABR tailpiece, chrome hardware. It was discontinued for a while in 2001 but has since been reintroduced - including a SG Classic Faded model.

GIBSON made the SG CUSTOM between 1963 and 1980. There were variations in bridges through the years (tremolo, tune-o-matic and stop tailpiece).

Production of the SG I began in 1972 and ended in 1978

The SG II was a double cutaway SG shaped mahogany solid body electric guitar made from 1972 through to 1976.  It had a black pickguard, mahogany neck and 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. The nickel hardware includes an adjustable wrap-around bridge and 3-a-side Kluson machineheads. The Gibson SG II was very similar to the SG I except it had 2 Gibson mini-humbucker pickups with sliding selector switches. Controls were sinlge volume and tone knobs mounted on a black plastic plate. It was available in cherry or walnut finishes.

GIBSON produced the SG III between 1972 and 1977. It identical to the SG II except it had cherry red sunburst finish.  Less than 1000 were made in total. It had two new design Gibson mini humbucking pickups and two sliding selector switches. Controls were a single volume and single tone with black top-hat style knobs. The mahogany body was 13.125" wide, 16" long, 1.31" deep. The laminated neck had 24.75" scale length and 22 frets.

Production of the SG LES PAUL wiith dekuxe MAESTRO (SG61) began in 1999 and ended in 2000

Production of the SG Professional began in 1971 and ended in 1974

The Gibson SG Special (manufactured between 1963 to 1977) features a double cutaway mahogany body, mahogany neck, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay. It has a stop tailpiece, blackface peghead with pearl logo inlay, 3-per-side tuners with plastic buttons, nickel hardware, layered black pickguard, 2 single coil pickups, 2 volume/2 tone control, 3-position switch, available in Ebony, Natural, Cherry (most common), Walnut  or White.

GIBSON made the SG Special 3/4 between 1959 and 1961

The Gibson SG Special Faded was introduced in 2002 as a less expensive version of the SG Special. Gibson use a pre-faded nitrocellulose satin finish for this guitar - in Worn Cherry and Worn Brown color. In 2002 the SG Special Faded had crescent moon shaped fingerboard inlays but Gibson changed these to dots after a year.

Around 300 SG standards were made with Bigsby Vibrato tailpieces.

GIBSON produced the SG Standard (1983-87 Mfg.) between 1983 and 1987

Production of the SG Standard (1989-1990 Mfg.) began in 1989 and ended in 1990

The GIBSON SG Standard With Maestro was made between 1996 and 2000. It was like the SG Standard model of the time, but came equipped with a Maestro VIbrato.

GIBSON produced the SG SUPREME (SGSU) between 2001 and 2003

GIBSON manufactured the SG TONY IOMMI SIGNATURE between 2001 and 2003. This had 2 Tony Iommi humbuckers and had Iommi's characteristic cross fret inlays in silver.

GIBSON manufactured the SG TV between 1959 and 1968. From 1959 to 1961 the guitar had a double rounded cutaway body shape (Les Paul Junior style). In 1961 Gibson changed the body shape to SG style. The early Junior style ones (1959-1961) with the double rounded cutaway are reasonably unusual. Originally the SG TV had a large black pickguard which was chaned to a small pickguard in 1966.
