Guild made the original STARFIRE BASS I between 1964 and 1975. It was a single pickup, short scale, thinline hollow body with a design similar to the Gibson EB2. The body was maple for sunburst finished instruments and laminated mahogany for solid cherry finish. The top has three-ply binding. The bridge, tailpiece and pickup were all Hagström, The single Hagstrom Bi-Sonic pickup on the Starfire is located centrally. A two pickup version (the Starfire II) was introduced in 1967 and proved more popular than the single pickup model.

According to the Guild 1966 catalog:

The STARFIRE BASS II was made between 1964 and 1977

GUILD manufactured the Starfire Bass II Current Mfg. (No. 350-7500) between 1998 and 2002

The STARFIRE I was made between 1961 and 1966

Production of the STARFIRE II began in 1961 and ended in 1972

GUILD produced the STARFIRE III between 1961 and 1970. It was essentially a Starfire I but with a Bigsby vibrato. These originally had single coil Guild pickups (some 1961-1962 models had DeArmond single coil pickups). By 1970 they had Guild humbuckers.

Guild reissued the Starfire III in 2013 as part of the Korean made Newark Street Collection

GUILD produced the STARFIRE IV between 1963 and 1994. Guild also produced a limited edition production run of 20 GSR (Guild Special Run) Starfire IVs in 2012. Guild reintroduced the Starfire IV in 2013  as part of the Korean made Newark St Collection series.

GUILD produced the STARFIRE V between 1963 and 1972. It was a semi-hollow bodied electric like the Starfire IV but had some extras like mother of pearl block fingerboard inlays, a Guild Bigsby vibrato and a master volume control.

The Guild Stafire V has recently been reissued as part of the Korean Guild Newark Street Series.

GUILD produced the STARFIRE VI between 1963 and 1979. The Starfire VI  (the Super Starfire) was the finest in the thinline semi-hollow bodied Guild Starfire Series -  it was a fancier version of the Starfire V. Features included inlaid ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl position markers and Mexican abalone insets. Bound f-holes. Gold-plated Grover Rotomatic machines. Gold-plated pick-ups and gold-plated Guild Bigsby Vibrato Tailpiece (some had lyre shaped trapeze tailpiece).

Production of the STARFIRE XII began in 1966 and ended in 1975
