The Hofner Clubs were Hofner's answer to the Gibson Les Pauls from the mid 1950s and to 1970. At the time import restrictions for USA guitars meant these Hofners were used by budding British guitar heros instead of Gibsons. Initially there were three club models; the Club 40 with a single pickup the two pickup Club 50 and the Club 60 with its elaborate appointments inclusing flamed timbers, ebony fingerboard, and fancy inlays. All Club models had a small, semi-hollow, single cutaway body measuring 17.125" X 13" X 2.125". The Club 70 appeared later in the 1960s but was something of an after thought.
Hofner Club 60THe Hofner Club 60 was introduced in 1958 and followed the Club 40 & 50 - but was much fancier than those models. The Club 60 had pearl inlays, ebony fingerboard, bound headstock and flamed woods. The body was semi-acoustic with a fully vaulted back. Available in Blonde (model 425) or Brunette (model 442) the Club 60 was fitted with Hofner's double flick action control console and two Hofner super response double pole pickups. |
