IBANEZ began making the SR800 around 1988 as part of their Soundgear bass series. The double cutaway body was initially made from basswood and the SR800 had a bolt-on maple neck with all access neck joint and tilt-back headstock. The pickups on the 1988 SR800LE were Ibanez LO-P and LO-J precision and jazz style units controlled by volume, balancer, EQ-treble and EQ-bass controls. The bridge was an Omni Adjust unit , this model also had the AccuCast B20 (formerly B IV) bridge. The SR800 had 24 frets but a fretless version (the SR800F) was available in 1992 only.
Circa 2016 the SR800 had a poplar burl-topped mahogany body and SR4 style jatoba/bubinga neck, Accu-cast B300 bridge and two Bartolini MK-1 pickups.
