The IBANEZ UV77 was a 7-string Universe electric guitar made from 1990 until 1993 as part of the Ibanez Steve Vai Signature series. In the first year of production it had an Edge-7 tremolo, which was changed to a Lo-Pro Edge 7 in 1991. It had no monkey-grip like the JEM models. This model featued on the front of the Passion and Warfare album. The production UV77MCs were swirled first in Japan. Steve Vai had agreed to only allow the guitars to be produced if they were swirled at the same place his prototypes were: About Time Designs. After a brief period, the UV77MC Japanese Swirls were aborted in favor of the ATD-Swirled ones. The ATD swirled models were done at the ATD factory by Darren Johansen on Long Island N.Y.
Ibanez reissued the UV77 in 2010 to mark the 20th anniversary of the model. Only 100 of the reissued UV77RE guitars were made.
