Lakland introduced the 4-94 model in 1994, their very first bass. The 4-94 comes in three variations: classic, standard and deluxe. The differences between the 4-94 classic, standard and deluxe are in body woods: classic has an alder body, maple top and a pickguard; the standard and deluxe have swamp ash bodies with figured maple tops and no pickguard.
The 4-94 is configured with a split MM pickup in the bridge position and a single J-style pickup at the neck. All coils are independently humbucked. There is a coil tap switch for the bridge pickup. Initially pickups were Bartolini or Seymour Duncan Basslines but the 4-94 currently comes with Lakland MM-J pickups. Lakland Chi-Sonic pickups are an optional upgrade for the 4-94.
