The Magnatone Mark VI (Artist series) bass is a single cutaway four string electric bass. It has a single pickup, volume and tone controls and output jack all mounted on a white scratch plate. The 20 fret rosewood fingerboard has white dot position markers. The Magnatone 1960 catalog has the following information about this guitar:

Magnatone’s Artist Series Bass Guitar is styled for fast action and effortless playing, to produce the deep rich mellow tones for which it is specifically designed. The slim neck line permits easier and faster fingering. yet remains strong and rigid due to two cantilever action reds which run through the neck to reinforce it; a perfect counter balance to the string tension. A concealed adjusting nut on the rod makes it possible to vary the tension if needed, to insure uniform playing conditions at all times.

The pickup is power packed with Alnico #5 permanent magnets. The simplified volume and tone central system is well located within easy reach for instant response with a minimum of effort.

Magnatone’s Artist Series Bass Guitar features a slim neck line, resulting in easier handling and remarkably fast action. The graceful neck is handcrafted in natural finish hardwood with Brazilian Rosewood fret hoard, chosen for its inherent resistance to wear and perspiration. Also featured; enclosed safety-string post and accurate and precision-made machine heads. The frets are hand finished and individually inspected for uniform and proper height. The body is cut from straight grained, select grade, kiln dried hardwood of uniform consistency to present warping and checking. It is handsomely finished in a sunburst effect of shaded mahogany color. A pristine white scratch-proof pick guard completes the custom-crafted appearance of the instrument.
