MARTIN produced the DC-28 between 1981 and 1996. It was the single rounded Venetian cutaway version of the legendary Martin D-28 model. The Martin DC-28 was designed, primarily, for acoustic jazz, rock or blues guitarists who often play in the upper fretboard positions. The cutaway upper bout allows easy access to those frets above the 14th position. The DC-28, however, is not simply a modified D-28. The re-configured X-brace and tone bars (necessary for the cutaway) accentuate the treble giving the guitar greater "cutting power." The deep Dreadnought body adds strong bass and volume. Traditional 28-style features include East Indian rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, genuine mahogany neck with adjustable truss rod, multi-black/white Boltaron bindings and rosette rings, and chrome enclosed tuners. Overall, the DC-28 sound is nicely balanced and particularly well suited to Martin's acoustic/electric pickup systems and is still available is the Martin DC-28E - with Fishman Aura VT Enhance electronics.
