The Martin DX1 was a budget acoustic that used modern materials in place of traditional tonewoods. The back and sides were high pressure laminate - with a wood textured finish. Martin used traditional wood for the soundboard which was made from solid Sitka spruce. The neck was made from Rust Stratabond - a type of plywood. The fingerboard and bridge were made from a type of phenolic called Black Richlite.
