MARTIN KITTY WELLS HTA (2002, LIMITED EDITION) reviewed by Ken Austin

This is a superb instrument. Perfect for voice accompaniment, fine for flat picking and easy to play. The sound is a little tilted toward higher notes, but bass is clear and notable. The HTA (Honky Tonk Angel - Kitty Wells' nickname) has abalone inlays: an angel inlaid in the headstock, around the sound hole, a crown at the 5th fret and diamonds in the remaining majors - 9th, 7th, 12th and 14th. The label is signed by Kitty Wells and C.F.Martin. The woods are beautiful; straight grain rosewood and golden spruce. I've owned this guitar since they came out (one of only 70 made) and am proud and pleased that I do. It's great for solos and bluegrass. If you ever get a chance to buy one - go for it!

This guitar is great. I've had it since it's inception and it plays beautifully. The base is a little light but it's still great for solos in bluegrass or solo picking or singing. The treble is incredible and sounds clear and true. The inlays are tasteful; a pearl headstock angel for the Honky Tonk Angel, traditional diamond inlays for positions in an ebony fretboard, with a crown inlayed in the fifth fret. I've played this guitar for almost 20 years and I still love it.
