The Music Man Steve Morse model was introduced in 1985. This guitar has plenty of pickups: two Morse Signature DiMarzio humbuckers at the neck and bridge with two single coils in the middle. These are controlled by three pickup selectors. Part of Morse's style is to constantly tweak the tone, volume and pickup selector controls for artistic effect and the Music Man Steve Morse model is perfect for this approach with its 11 possible pickup combinations. The Music Man Steve Morse Y2D guitar was introduced in 2005 to mark the 20 year anniversary of the Music Man Steve Morse signature guitar (first created in 1985). The Steve Morse Y2D features a poplar body with maple top in flame or quilt, cream binding and an opaque black finish on the back and sides of the body.

The Y2D has three Di-Marzio pickups in H-S-H configuration (one single coil fewer than the original Steve Morse model) with a new custom wound single coil pickup in the middle position. A 2-way toggle and 3-way lever switch controls various pickup selection options.
