The axe shaped Ovation Breadwinner (model 1251) was made between 1971 and 1979. The Breadwinner shared the same mahogany body as the more expensive Deacon model, but had solid color textured Lyrachord finish (white, black, blue or tan), dot inlays, unbound fingerboard.Early models were had with Ovation's toroidal single pole pickups while later models were equipped with humbuckers.  The Breadwinner also had an active FET preamp, giving a wide range of tones Ovation published a guide to sounds where they listed various band and song "signature" sounds and the control settings to use to achieve those sounds.
