Brand name:

  • electric guitars

Series name:

Dates of manufacture:

1988 to 2010

The PRS CE (Classic Electric) was first introduced in 1988. The original CEs where known simply as the "PRS Electric" but by 1995 these models were labelled PRS CE. PRS couldn't use the model name "Classic Electric" due to trademark issues with Peavey so they used the abbreviation CE instead.

The first PRS CEs had alder bodies but in 1989 PRS added a multi-piece maple top as an option. When they started offering the CE with mahogany back in 1995 the CE became a budget bolt-on neck version of their Custom model. The stop tailpiece and regular neck profile were discontinued in 2001 and from then on the CE was offered with wide thin neck, tremolo only.
