The PRS Swamp Ash Special was introduced in 1996. It has a swamp ash body, with bolt-on maple neck, PRS McCarty neck and bridge pickups with a Seymour Duncan Vintage rails in the middle position and 5-way pickup selector. This guitar is all about versatility.Controls were 3-way toggle, volume, push-pull tone (coil tap). The Swamp Ash Special had a PRS stoptail bridge (discontinued in 2001) or a PRS tremolo with locking tuners.
PRS also introduced a Swamp Ash Special with three Narrowfield pickups - these are narrow humbuckers combining the focused string sensing of single coils with hum cancelling. This model also had the PRS Pattern Regular neck (based on the late 1980s PRS neck profile), bird fingerboard inlays and the new V12 finish. The V12 finish is very thin, hard, durable and clear finish.
PRS had discontinued the Swamp Ash Special by 2013.
