Since its introduction in 1979 during Spector's Brooklyn era, the NS-2 bass has become one of Spector's most recognised and popular designs. Made in the USA with a neck-through body and P/J pickups the NS-2 has a body designed by Ned Steinberger. Today's NS-2s are very similar to these early models:  they now employ active EMG pickups and with Spector's own tone circuits made in the USA.

The Spector NS-2J is like the NS-2 but has a bolt on neck, swamp ash (or curly maple) body, 2 EMG active J pickups and 24 fret Pau Ferro fingerboard with pearl crown inlays. Also  available as a limited edition model in 2010 with a walnut body and figured walnut top, Hipshot custom bridge and UltraLite tuners,

The Spector NS-5 was introduced in 1986 as the five string version of the NS-4. Like the NS-4 it has active EMG pickups. Doug Wimbish has played a 1980s Spector NS-5.

The NS-5XL is the extra long scale length (35") version of the NS-5.

The Spector NS-4 is like the NS-2 except with  EMG 35DC humbucking pickups and the SPECTOR USA 18-volt Tone Control Circuit. Bass Player Magazine recognised the NS-4 as one of the top 3 basses in the $2500 plus price range. The NS-4, like all the NS models, has the Ned Steinberger designed body style - but is also available with the Spector X body style.

The first NS-6 was produced by SPECTOR in 1999
