Ibanez made the STARFIELD ALTAIR AMERICAN CUSTOM (models ALC1220 and ALC1225) from 1992 until 1994. It was the mahogany bodied, flame maple topped version of the Starfield American Classic. This was a high end model: by the looks of the design it was a response by Ibanez to the success of PRS in the early 1990s. The Altair Custom and had two direct mounted Seymour Duncan humbuckers. The bolt on neck was single piece maple with all-access neck joint and 25 inch scale length. The ALC1220 model had a maple fingerboard and the ALC1225 an ebony fingerboard. This model came with transparent finishes - to show off the flamed maple top, with tobacco sunburst, cherry, green or grey color options.

The Starfield Altair SJ Custom (ALC630) was also available and had three Vintage single coil pickups.

I have a dark Cherry Altair American Custom 1225, the best ebony fretboard I have ever seen, the Flame Maple top is select and the mohgoany body is rock solid. rivals any PRS on the planet. ibanez built these in calfornia as a ultra high end guitar to compete with PRS. I must say this is the best built guitar with all select materials and hardware that I have ever played. Got it for $200 and would have paid many times that. If you can find one buy it, you will never sell it. At 25" scale it is a string benders dream with 9 guage.

litterally the best playing and feeling guitar I have ever played. Altair American Custom Cherry finish/flame maple, the finest and tightest ebony fretboard I have ever seen and dead straight. graphite nut and Gotoh lockers. top of the line materials and workmanship. Action set at 3/64 up and down the neck with no fret issues. These are rare and hard to find, if you get your hands on one you won't let go. Made in Calfornia as a top high end guitar to rival PRS and i think these may have surpassed that mark. the best fit and finish of any guitar I have ever touched. don't bank on seeing it for sale.
