The Washburn Stephens Extended Cutaway series of acoustic guitars was introduced in 1987. The series had two basic models: the DC60 Lexington and the DC80 Charleston. There were also versions with electronics: the DC60E and DC80E as well as a 12 string the DC6012. The Stephen's Extended Cutaway is a series of design elements that allow the neck joint to be much thinner than the conventional instruments. This extended cutaway allows complete access to the 24 fret fingerboard. The heel block is inside the body, allowing classical hand positioning (thumb behind the neck) even to the uppermost register.
