Yamaha introduced the LS-16 in 2004. It was a concert sized acoustic with solid Englemann spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides and ebony fingerboard. In 2013 the LS-16 was discontinued and replaced by the Yamaha LS-16 ARE (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement). The ARE process is a type of torrefaction, whereby the wood is heated to remove the oils and resins, speeding up the natural aging process to improve the tone.
This model was also available with mahogany sides and back as the Yamaha LS-16M
