YAMAHA RGX SERIES

The Yamaha RGX Series electric guitars a bare a resemblance to the Ibanez RG series, the Jackson Soloist and other superstrat style guitars. These Taiwan-made instruments were first introduced in 1987.

RGX Series guitars typically have at least 24 or more frets and a bolt-on neck. Some high-end models have a neck-through-body design. Some come with Yamaha active pickups, two single coils and one humbucker. Most of these higher end instruments were generally known as RGZ, including the RGZ820R, a custom plaid graphic model with two humbuckers and a Floyd Rose licensed locking tremolo, played by rock guitarist Blues Saraceno.

The RGX series was upgraded in 2003 with a 3D headstock, 3-a-side tuner layout and a piezo bridge option for acoustic-like tones. Endorsees of this series included Blues Saraceno and Ty Tabor of King's X, who got his namesake RGX-TT and RGX-TTD6 signature models in 2000.

YAMAHA RGX 420S D6 (Drop 6)

YAMAHA manufactured the RGX 420 SD6 (Drop 6) between 2001 and 2003. It was a baritone (longer scale) version of the RGX 420 S, which allows for a lower tuning - signalled by the "Drop 6" decal on the peghead. The RGX-420S D6 had a solid alder super-strat body (Satin Black, Satin Gray or Metallic Green finish). Pickups were 2 humbuckers with 1 selector switch and a bypass "blower" switch which routes the signal direct from the bridge humbucker to the output jack. The black hardware included a double locking tremolo.
