Yamaha SG Series (1976 to 1981)

Yamaha began using the "SG" (solid guitar) prefix for their solid bodied guitars when they introduced their first solid-body model in 1965 and continued using the SG prefix up until 1981.

The period 1976 to 1981 marked the third and final era of the SG series. In 1976, Yamaha introduced their well known and popular symmetrical double cutaway shape that most people recognise as a Yamaha SG (like the SG 2000 model). The model numbers became three or four digits long. In 1981, Yamaha stopped using the "SG" model name due to the request of another guitar manufacturer, and changed their guitars to the "SBG" models.

YAMAHA SG2000

The classic Yamaha SG2000 was developed in association with Carlos Santana, and was one of the first electric guitar models that designed specially for distribution in the U.S. First introduced in the 1970s they are still being made and sold today.
