The two-piece select swamp ash body of the Zon Sonus Custom is what elevates it above a regular Zon Sonus bass. The Sonus Custom has various options including|: fretless -lined, blank or half lined. The Zon Sonus Custom 5 is the 5-string version of the Sonus Custom. This is a custom model so there are many options for woods, inlays and hardware, although they all have bolt-on graphite necks. These have been around since at least 1996 (maybe earlier).

The Sonus RT5 Deluxe features a two-piece solid figured maple body mated to a custom-tapered, bolt-on maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. Electronics consist of two custom EMG single-coil pickups and a custom Bartolini preamp. Active tone controls offer bass, midrange, and treble boost/cut of ±15dB. The midrange is centered at 400 Hz, providing variable tonal weight and depth. Volume and pickup-blend controls allow further sonic shaping.
