This review is written from the perspective of value, specifically the typical investment of $200-300 for the levels of quality and playability.
The RD8 is an older model dreadnought acoustic guitar that is very well made. Unlike modern acoustic guitars made of laminated materials, this guitar is built with a natural finished spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a sleek mahogany neck. Adding to it's quality construction are a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. The headstock is adorned with the distinctive Alvarez logo as a headstock overlay. Extra styling includes a pearl soundhole rosette, and black binding on the body and fingerboard.
The solid wood construction ages well and delivers a warm, rich tone. The neck shape and body size provide great playability for most adult players. This size guitar would be rather large and cumbersome for children or small-framed adults.
