FENDER produced the ROBBEN FORD between 1987 and 1993. The model was based on the Fender Esprit Ultra and Robben Ford is shown holding one on the cover of the Talk to Your Daughter album. These guitars were produced in Japan from around 1989 to 1994 most had chambered alder bodies, spruce tops and ebony fingerboards. Robben Ford's signature is on the truss rod cover. They had Nashville style bridges with Schaller fine tuning tail-pieces. These were made in Japan from 1987 until 1993 when the model was replaced by the Roben Ford Ultra SP and production was moved to the US Fender Custom Shop.
