1996 EC-30! blues king electro

bought it from someone on ebay in 1998! little did i know what i had in my possession!! this guitar is a gem!! The predecessor's such as the j-185's and new blues king's cannot replicate the sound of this guitar!

The same thing happened to me. I guess whoever sold it on ebay did not go to the Gibson website and/or did not correctly read the serial #'s correctly. I bought my 1996 model in 1998 for $980.00. I wouldn't sell it for 4 times that now! Like you said, the sound cannot be replicated on the j-185's!!
