The first Eclipses produced had a arched top Telecaster body shape but were discontinued in the late 1980. The ESP Eclipse reappeared in 1995 in its current Les Paul shape. The body shape had to be changed in the North American market following a lawsuit from Gibson Guitars, and now have a wider cutaway and only 3 knobs: 1 bridge pickup volume knob, 1 neck pickup volume knob, and 1 tone control knob.

ESP manufactured the Eclipse Arch Top between 1996 and 2000

The first incarnation of the ESP ECLIPSE CUSTOM was made between 1986 and 1987 and had a telecaster style body - unlike the later Les Paul style Eclipse Customs. It was available with tremolo or tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece (ESP Eclipse Custom-N.T.). The fingerboard inlays were slightly different on the N.T. models.

Pickups were 2 exposed alnico magnet humbuckers: LH-500 at the bridge and LH-200 at the neck

ESP produced the second version of the Eclipse Custom model between 1987 and 1988. It was like the first Eclipse Custom, with a telecaster style body but with a through-body bound neck, bound fingerboard and offset block position markers. It came in a hard tail version the Eclipse Custom N.T. (non-tremolo) or with a locking tremolo. Slash used a black non-trem Eclipse Custom in the recording of Guns N'Roses albums Use Your Illusions I & II

The ESP Eclipse Custom had a Les Paul style single cutaway body from 2003 onwards, earlier models had a telecaster style body with 6 in a row pointed headstock. In 2003 the Eclipse Custom had a quilted maple top (with transparent finish) on a mahogany body and two EMG-81 pickups.

The ECLIPSE CUSTOM (USA CUSTOM SERIES) was made between 1998 and 2000

ESP produced the Eclipse Custom T between 1987 and 1988

The Eclipse Deluxe was made between 1986 and 1988 - it was like the Eclipse custom except with a standard vibrato (although in the final year of production in 1988 these had double locking tremolos). These were the early Telecaster shaped ESP Eclipses.

ESP made the first Eclipse Semi-Acoustic (Nylon String) in 1999

Production of the Eclipse Semi-Acoustic (Steel String) began in 1996 and ended in 2000
