Jason Kostal served as a military officer in the US Army, before leaving to studying for an MBA. During this time Kostal was introduced to the world of guitar building by Kent Everett in Atlanta. Dissastisfied with his career in corporate management, he enrolled in the Roberto Venn School of Luthiery. On graduation he stayed on at Roberto Venn as an assistant instructor while also building Kostal guitars in his own workshop. In 2008 Kostal started a three year apprenticeship with Ervin Somogyi, where he took his skills to the next level: learning the latest techniques for building, voicing, and refining the instrument. On finishing his apprenticeship, Kostal moved back to the Phoenix area and opened up his workshop in Queen Creek, Arizona.
