Fritz Mueller started instrument making as an undergraduate in Wisconsin, but took it up more seriously a few years later after leaving graduate school. In the late 1970s he worked with master guitarbuilder Jeff Elliott in Portland, Oregon, who introduced him to the possibilities of the Hauser model. For many years he has lived with his family on a former ranch in the mountains of British Columbia. He makes a limited number of classical guitars each year. Since the 1990s he has made doubletop classical guitars exclusively.
