The Silvertone brand was sold through Sears-Roebuck catalogs and stores.The Silvertone logo is no longer affiliated with the Sears Department Store chain. The copyright to the Silvertone brand logo was sold to the Samick Music Corporation. In 2000 Samick of Korea began manufacturing the current Silvertone line of entry level guitars and basses. The instruments are distributed by Silvertone of Gallatin, Tennessee.

The Sears Silvertone (electronic entertainment) store brand was introduced by Sears in 1941 and discontinued in 1971. Sears originally sold acoustic guitars beginning in 1894 as the Supertone brand. The first cataloged Supertone was the Our Leader acoustic guitar #11129 for $4.50 with a one year warranty. It was a standard size guitar made of maple.
