Paul Reed Smith (PRS) introduced the Standard 22 model in 1994 as a 22 fret version of the PRS Standard model. Otherwise the PRS Standard 22 shares the features of the PRS Standard.

According to the PRS website (in 1999) Paul Reed Smith grew up listening to the local guitarists around Washington, DC, many of whom played 1950s Gibsons with mahogany bodies and the Standard 22 follows the classic "simple is better" philosophy of those instruments, with a one piece mahogany body, one piece Wide Fat mahogany neck, two Dragon ll pickups and the PRS Stop-tail bridge. The PRS tremolo system, was a no charge option. 

Electronics were Dragon II pickups with covers, a 5-way rotary pickup selector, Volume control and Tone control. As an option you could have a 3-way toggle pickup selector with push-pull modified coil tap on tone control.

In 2007/2008 the Standard 22 was replaced by the Standard Satin model which has since been discontinued
