Fernandez Monterrey Standard LS-75

Like almost all Japanese manufacturers from the 1970's, Fernandes, typically produces a wonderful product at a great price. The Monterey LS-75 is inexpensive guitar begging to be tweeked. Toss the pigtail bridge, as it is almost impossible to intonate. The humbuckers on this entry level guitar are fabulous. They've developed a cult following and have become pricey. Like the Maxon P-90 Staples these are well worth the +/- $ 150 a pair Uncharacteristically for Fernandes the neck is unstable although with some surgery and 2 carbon rods it cleans up reasonably well. The factory tuners are what you would expect an entry-level $300 new in 1999 guitar.. $60 set of tuners such as Rotomatics (Trevor Wilkinson sells knockoff Grovers for approx. $30) and you tuning is stabilised .I have,to date purchased 6 Monterey series for less than $100. Add $50 -60 for a tone pro knockoff and tuners. Due to the incredible humbuckers (trust me. they are Loller or Frailen good). I have 2, the other 4 were for friends.who gig with them as their #1 or 2 working guitar.
