The ELK Bass BS-400 is a solid body bass guitar with an asymmetric double cut-away Precision style body shape. The body is finished in sunburst polyester and has a white pickguard. It has an adjustable bridge tailpiece with four individual mufflers. Pickups are three humbuckers - at the bridge, neck and middle and each pickuo has its own volume control plus a single master tone control.

The bolt-on neck is maple, with Precision shaped headstock and "ELK" logo in black. The fingerboard is rosewood with a zero fret and block position markers.
