Product:

  • acoustic guitars

Series name:

Dates of manufacture:

1949 to 1970

Production of the Gibson L-4C began in 1949 and ended around 1971.  The Gibson L-4C was an acoustic version of the GIbson ES-145, but the L-4C had a solid spruce top whereas the ES-145 had a laminated top. The L-4C had an elegantly simple archtop body with a single Florentine cutaway with a spruce top, maple back & sides, bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard, parallelogram fingerboard inlays, 3-Ply body binding, Kluson Deluxe tuners (with plastic buttons) and Brazilian rosewood adjustable compensated bridge. The blackfaced headstock has the pearl flowerpot and logo inlay. These L4-Cs are often seen with pickguard or neck mounted jazz pickups and controls and the L-4C could be ordered from Gibson with a Johnny Smith pickup already installed .
