IBANEZ UNIVERSE SERIES

The Ibanez Universe is a seven-string version of the Ibanez Steve Vai signature JEM series and the first mass-produced solid body seven-string electric guitar. The most obvious differences between the Universe and JEM are the extra string and lack of monkey-grip cut-out handle in the body of the Universe. The first Universes, the UV7 and UV77 were introduced in 1990, though Vai had played prototypes. The UV7 was available in white (UV7PWH) or black with green appointments (UV7BK). The UV77 was available in a swirled multicolor finish (UV77MC). In 1991, Ibanez introduced the UV777. The most expensive Universe at the time, the UV777 was available in green with a black (white pearloid on some models) pickguard and green/yellow appointments (UV777GR). It also had a maple fingerboard instead of rosewood. Ibanez released a limited edition UV77RE in 2010 and in 2016 announced the limited edition UV77PSN to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Passion and Warfare.

IBANEZ UV7

Ibanez introduced the UV7 in 1990 as part of the Universe Series of Steve Vai 7-string models. For the first year this model had the Edge 7 tremolo but this was changed to the Lo-Pro Edge 7 in 1991. Pickups were DiMarzio Blaze II. The black finish and green pickups & controls match the 6-string JEM777V-BK. This model was replaced by the UV7S in 1997 with black pickups and controls.
