Martin first began producing the 0-21 way back in 1898. The concert sized 0-21 was the smallest body sized version of the Martin style 21 flat-tops. They had 19 frets and the neck joined the body at the 12th fret. The earliest ones had cedar necks until mahogany necks were introduced in 1917. They had also ebony fingerboards until 1941 and then rosewood until the 0-21 model was discontinued .
