I bought this guitar new from ABC Music in Esher, Surrey, England in December 1993 and paid £599

I had been meaning to buy an electric/acoustic guitar as I had only owned a Colombus Gibson Hummingbird copy since 1970.

After having tried many different guitars I came back to the Washburn ea40 for the quality of sound, workmanship, and sheer beauty of this guitar.

I believe that the guitar was made in Japan. At that time Washburn were also offering the Birdseye Maple finishs in a variety of translucent varnishes, clear and Ice Blue, they were also really cool.

The neck is fairly narrow and the action low and is a joy to play, particularly when amped up, where the variety of sounds is quite astounding. The picture here was taken in 2011.

I don't believe there was ever a Manufacturers label beneath the sound hole, there is only the name Wasburn branded into the rear brace strut. The back of the guitar is bevelled and has the Mk1 electrics with both sliders and knobs.

I have never had any problems with this guitar

Washburn EA40

I have just bought this same guitar in wine red so thanks for posting the photograph mine does not have a manufacturer label but does have the washburn logo and a number printed on the inside of the back which starts with 1989 so I assume this is the year of manufacture. The sound is as you say amazing , so pleased with it.
