The American Professional II Jazzmaster has a deep C neck design with smooth rolled fingerboard edges, a satin finish and a newly sculpted neck heel for comfortable feel along the entire fretboard. New V-Mod II Jazzmaster single-coil pickups include a tap function that allows both a powerful, throaty sound as well as a traditional lower-output sound. The Jazzmaster American Professional II also features a new Panorama tremolo system with a pop-in tremolo arm that increases the range of vibrato available, allowing for deep, Strat-style dives.

In response to low-priced import competition, Fender created the Lead Series in 1979, featuring a new solidbody design, hardtail bridge and new wiring options. The Player Lead III, a tribute to the original 1982-only model, features a set of 2 hot Alnico V Player humbucking pickups, dual-toggle switches for pickup selection and coil-splits and a modern "C" neck shape with medium jumbo frets. The Fender Player Duo Sonic guitar continues a tradition that began in 1956. First introduced as a student-level guitar, the Duo-Sonic soon found its way into the hands of blues guitarists and art rockers. The Fender Player Duo Sonic is still a hip guitar but with contemporary features. The alder body has a maple neck, with a comfortable C-shaped profile. The maple fretboard has a 24" scale length perfect for smaller hands, or string it heavier and still enjoy bending ease. Dual Fender single coils have classic clean tones.
